Frequently Asked Questions

Health and safety:

What are your COVID precautions?

Our staff are all fully vaccinated and masked at all times. All public spaces in the facility are outdoors. Surfaces are frequently cleaned and disinfected. Please see our COVID policies page for more information.

Can Vista Celestial help me arrange a COVID test, if required for my home country?

Yes. We can arrange testing at the hotel prior to your return flight, results typically available within 12 hours.

Can I drink the water?

Yes! Standards are high in Costa Rica. The water is completely safe to drink. This also means that it is safe to enjoy fresh foods like fruits, juices and salads. We source our water from a fresh mountain spring. You will find it to be tasty and refreshing.

Are there mosquitoes at Vista Celestial?

We have very few mosquitoes. We are on a steep hill which provides great views, waterfalls, and very little standing water, which limits environments conducive to mosquitos. Our resident hummingbirds take care of the few that do arrive!

Is Vista Celestial secure?

Yes! Vista Celestial is located on a mountain road that has very few visitors. We have more monkeys than outsiders here. We also have safes for your valuables in every room. While off the property, guests should use common sense security measures. Don’t leave valuables unattended or in plain view.

Getting Here & Around:

How do I get to Vista Celestial?

Most of our guests start by flying to San José international airport. From there, we can arrange a private driver for you, you can rent a 4×4 car, or take a regional flight.

How long does it take to get to Vista Celestial?

It takes about 3.5 hours to drive from San José to Vista Celestial. If you are flying into Quepos or coming from the Manuel Antonio area, you can expect about an hour drive to Vista Celestial. Take your time and enjoy the scenery. Stop at the Río Tarcoles bridge and see live crocodiles in the river below. Also, don’t forget to stop at a roadside “Soda” or fruit stand for some delicious Costa Rican foods.

Do I need to rent a car?

Vehicle needs depend on your plans. We can arrange taxis if you don’t want to drive and do not charge any additional fees for local taxi rides, which can all be conveniently billed to your villa and paid for at checkout. If you prefer to do the driving or if you plan to be out a lot, we recommend renting a car. We can reserve a car for you at the airport or have one delivered to you at the hotel. Lastly, if you decide to rent a car on your own, remember that four-wheel drive is REQUIRED!

How will I get to the beach?

Vista Celestial is close to at least a dozen amazing beaches, including the famous Whale’s Tail beach. The beaches are a 15 to 20 minute drive down the mountain from Vista Celestial. You can drive your own rental car or we can arrange taxis for you. Enjoy the beach during the day and escape to our more comfortable climate at night.

What To Bring:

Will I need Costa Rican currency (Colones)?

You will not need Colones at Vista Celestial, and most vendors, large and small, accept credit cards and / or U.S. dollars. If you pay with USD, vendors may provide you with change in colones.

Do I need cash for Vista Celestial staff gratuities?

100% of tips go to staff, whether you leave them on a credit card to be paid at check out or in cash.

What type of electrical outlets are used in Costa Rica?

Costa Rica uses the same electric standards as the rest of North America. Outlets are 120 volts and 60 hz. Visitors from Europe and other parts of the world may need adapters.

How cold does it get in the evening?

The temperatures fall into the low 70s at night, but very rarely below that. You may want to bring a light sweater. If you want to explore the mountains above Vista Celestial (the 12,533 foot summit of Mount Chirripó is only 25 miles away), bring warm layers.

How often does it rain?

Mornings are almost always clear, but the afternoon rain showers that support our rainforest ecosystem are frequent. The rain is never cold, but we do suggest bringing a waterproof jacket for comfort. We provide umbrellas at Vista Celestial.
