Yoga Teacher Bio:

Gail Bowers
Born & raised in Cape Town, South Africa. I immigrated to the USA in 2004 and have lived in Pierre, SD since.
I have been fortunate to have travelled to many beautiful countries filled with rich cultural diversity. All the experiences I have gained through my travels have helped mould me into the person I am today.

I have always been passionate about body nourishment and being active. From the young age of 5 I started Ballet classes with the Royal Academy of Dance in Namibia, continuing on with Modern Jazz until I found Yoga in 2000 in Cape Town, South Africa. I love what Yoga has to offer – the mindfulness of the practice yet still being able to build strength and flexibility.

I completed my 200-Hour training with Organic Yoga School, in Sioux Falls, SD in 2013. I did Prenatal Yoga Certification at Lotus House of Yoga in Omaha, NE in 2015 and am currently completing my 300-Hour certification at Evolve to Harmony Yoga School with Carole Westerman in Omaha, NE. I am also certified in Yin Yoga and Restorative Yoga.

I opened Ubuntu Yoga Center, in Pierre, SD in August 2013 – the only Yoga studio in the area. I teach Beginner classes, Chair Yoga, Hatha Yoga for all levels, Yin Yoga and Restorative Yoga. My classes are alignment based, using Suzy Hately’s Eight Principles of Movement. I have an on-going Seva project at the Senior Living Center in Pierre, SD. In July 2016, I presented a Yin Yoga class at the South Dakota Yoga Retreat in Deadwood, SD.

I have also completed an 8-week course in Mindful Self Compassion with Emmanuella Baron, MHSW, UniSA and will be taking a Move Without Pain Fundamentals of Hanna Somatics workshop with Theresa Evans, CCSE in February 2017.
I am passionate about helping students move without pain, and helping them becoming aware of their bodies through Yoga and then taking what they have learnt and applying it to their daily lives.
