ABOUT ANN-MARIE AND AMANDA
E-RYT500, iRest Yoga Nidra Level 1 Trained Teacher, Professional Explorer
Hiya 🙂 I’m Ann-Marie. I’ve been doing this yoga thing for a long time now. It all
began in the 90’s with Rodney Yee VHS tapes and has now become a full time
profession. Yoga kept weaving in and out of my life through college and I kept
weaving in and out of yoga practice. It was college, I started branching out and
practicing around Wilmington and found amazing Live Music Drumming classes,
vinyasas, and hot yoga. I started practicing all the time, even teaching some yoga
to my beach volleyball team once a week in exchange for supper :) (I literally
worked for food). I knew I wanted to teach yoga and movement. The seed had
been planted. I just needed to follow my heart.
2011 I officially became certified in yoga and iRest yoga nidra. At the time, I was
working at Naval Hospital Camp Lejeune, and we started a yoga and meditation
program for the mental health department. It was wonderful to serve the military
in this way – teaching yoga and meditation – we were seeing amazing benefits of
the practice with anxiety, depression, chronic sleep disorders, PTSD, TBI…I saw
over the next 3 years how powerful this tool is we call yoga.
2014, I set out to pursue teaching yoga Full-Time! It was Scary, amazing, and
Liberating. I let go of stability, threw caution to the wind, and started following
my path, my north node. I started to awaken and realized THIS is what I’m
suppose to be doing in the world – sharing movement, breathing and exploring
moving with others and the world. I was starting to do it. I was teaching yoga full
time. The journey continues as I continue to step outside of my comfort zones
and study, travel and keep exploring moving through this body and this world.
I’m so in love with this journey and all of you I meet along the path. I am so
grateful for all my teachers and all of YOU- showing up – sharing your practice –
and being real. It’s because of y’all I can keep learning, growing, laughing,
traveling, and evolving into the best version.
I started teaching movement, yoga, and things for one simple reason…to make
this moving practice accessible to everyone. To set you up for success. To help
you feel. To help you move in your body, to explore…those of you who have taken
my classes or trainings or traveled to far away places with me, I thank you. I
thank my teacher, mentor, and friend Caitlin Cassella for continuing to be my
teacher of all the things.
Today you can find me teaching a few public classes, private sessions, Teaching
YTT, and Retreats all over the world. As Mary Oliver said, “Tell me, what is it you
plan to do with your one wild and precious life?”
See you soon.
I reconnected with Yoga in 2010 when I had chronic pain with
no relief or answers from anyone. Little did I know that my Yoga path was
unfurling right before my eyes. I quickly jumped on the path with everything I
had. Even though it has been a bumpy winding road, Yoga has brought me
incredible joy. I had the strong urge to share this joy with others and
enrolled in the YogaWorks YTT program in 2013. My passion for Yoga continued to
grow from there. I started teaching beginners and then evolved in to teaching
all levels which is my preference. I strive to make Yoga inclusive and have
developed my teaching style so that everyone feels welcome in my class and
leaves with a positive self-image. Over the years, my interests have drifted
away from asana and have shifted more towards meditation and chanting. I love
sharing all aspects of Yoga and what I’ve learned with my students. I have
studied with some amazing teachers over the last 10 years and honor all of
those who came before me.
